Katrina has a future as a designer:
Reports say that Katrina Kaif did her own shopping for her wardrobe in Namastey London, and if that is so, the girl has
a future as a designer.
Except for the make-up that was over done for her young and flawless skin, Katrina looked as trendy as no leading lady
had looked in the recent past. Though she wore strappy and backless dresses and mini skirts, the sexiness was never in-your-face,
like say the costumes of the girls in Dhoom 2, which screamed 'Hot'. Katrina was hot without even trying. Except for a couple
of places where she was inappropriately dressedlike the knee length denim shorts and glittery cowboy boots in
the cowshed scene and the distracting off-the-shoulder top when she calls Akshay to meet her. But the cool dresses she wears
like the polka-dotted number in the dance-lesson scene or the black mini in the pub scene flattered her youth
and healthy (as opposed to anorexic) figure.
Whoever thought of the jeans and calf-length kurtas for Akshay Kumar's Punjabi farmer character got it quite wrongand
that too in colours like bubble gum pink. When he shifts to somber suits in the London portions, he looked classyexcept
for the carroty hair. Akshay is one of the few film personalities, who because if his height and built, carries suits welland
the fact that he wears them with casual ease, and not with a look of stiff formality that ruin the effect of a good suit.
Of late, our actresses (except Aishwarya Rai and Rani Mukerji) have abandoned the self-conscious grace of the sari and
switched to gowns and cocktail dresses for formal wear. They don't even hesitate to wear revealing dresses with plunging necklines
a very no-modesty, flaunt the figure look that Bipasha Basu carries off very well, and Celina Jaitley overdoes.
Whether in real life or on screen in a film like Red, the neckline of Celina's dresses plunges a little too muchthat's
not sexy it's a desperate attention-getting ploy that Mallika Sherawat employed in her pre-diva days. Her dress sense may
not have improved much, but her cleavage is a bit more in control. (Remember the Cannes horror when her push up bra pushed
up her bosom almost to the chin!)
And who'd have thought that small town girl Kangana Ranaut would get her look together so stylishly. She has been seen
around town in the loveliest and most lady-like of dresses. The only thing wrong is that she has straightened her hair, which
makes her look like any other starletit was the tousled curly style that made her stand out in the crowd of girls
with identical clothes, accessories and make-up.
It takes the care-a-damn attitude of Tabu to appear at a premiere (of The Namesake) in plain and severe blackno
bling means a lot of confidence. That's real cool. In the film too, Tabu has a wardrobe of exquisite Bengali saris and perfectly
fitted blouses--where does the character she plays get them tailored in America of the seventies? But never mind, she looks
delicate and dignified.

I’m happy doing commercial films:
Katrina Kaif, who gave the maximum hits among all Bollywood actresses last year, says she is having a ball
doing commercial films and has no plans to venture into “serious” cinema right now.
“I am pretty clear about what I want to do. I don’t want to go down the road doing serious cinema.
I am happy doing commercial films. The fun films give the audience time to escape the monotony in everyday life,”
Katrina told IANS in an interview here.
“I love what I am doing and there is plenty of time to do serious films. I am sure I will do them. But at this
point I am really enjoying myself and I love dancing, I love the characters I am playing. Last year, I did a lot of comedies,
at the same time I did ‘Namastey London’ which was a fantastic character. This year, I have a slightly
greater variety of roles.”
She was here to promote the film “Race”, which will be her first release of the year. Directed by
the duo Abbas-Mustan, the film also has a host of A-list actors like Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha
“I don’t want to give away too much about my role because it is a suspense film. My character has
a lot more shades. She is something you don’t expect from me. I saw the first print of the film. It is a very tongue-
in-cheek kind of film and not to be taken very seriously.
“It is one of those films where good guys are really good and bad guys are even worse. It is like those heightened
novels of Agatha Christie where everything is a little exaggerated. The overall experience was truly entertaining.”
Her kitty is full of hits like “Partner” and “Welcome”.
After so many hits in a row, where do you place yourself in filmdom?
“I don’t think it’s a matter where you place yourself. It’s a matter of how your
fan feels about you and where the industry finds you. At this particular place I think I am lucky to be able to say that I
do get offers for a lot of film.”
Now she has moved on to bigger banners like Yash Raj Films.
“Yes, I am doing a Yash Raj film with John Abraham. Neil Mukesh is also in the film. I think the best if they
(producers) speak about the film. It is a completely different genre and not something I have done before.”
Apart from that she will be seen in “Singh Is King” with Akshay Kumar and in Rajkumar Santoshi’s
next film, “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani”, with Ranbir Kapoor.
“‘Singh Is King’ is a comedy. Rajkumar Santoshi’s script is one of the best scripts
I have ever heard. It will be a new experience for me.”
In all these films, Katrina is paired with the younger lot of actors. Ask her if it is a conscious move, she says: “It
just happened. The whole set up has to be good and the script is very important.
“You know that if Akshay (Kumar) and Salman (Khan) are in the film, they can pull off even a bad script. But
when you are working with a new team, you have to be really sure of the whole project. It took me some time to select the
